Local banks and financial firms must be taking notice finally of the 99% camped out in Levis Square. Now marking 11 days the movement is in search of Toledo's 1% so as to identify them. Rick Van Landingham suggests that they demand City Council rename the area Liberty Square. This was the scene this morning before the huge protest at the Crowne Plaza.

This is Levis Square on Thursday morning after a Wednesday night clean up. Who really thinks people will want to come or move downtown if this is allowed to continue? Is the message being sent by this one of anger at Wall St and the banks or one of anger at mom and dad for not paying enough attention to me? If you were living next door to this in your neighborhood you'd call nuisance abatement.

The couple times I've walked by the area, it did seem like a lot of items for the small number of people actually "occupying" the space.
Sorry, I just found out that the GA's are now at 1p and 7p. The change was made so that 5 people could attend.
At what point does this stop being a "protest" and start being "vagrancy"?

Fred, you are a joke. If you worked for any respectable employer they would ask you to stop making yourself and the station look like idiots. But then again, you work for WSTD. (yes, I know it's wspd)
How many people listen to WSPD on a typical morning at 8AM?
I stopped listening to it in the afternoon, its not that I don't agree somewhat with the arguments its just that he cant talk all that well. I do like Fred in the morning better than Brian because he does speak a lot better, but I have my radio tuned to WJR in Detroit more often than not. I have to laugh at the level of hate that some show to the station though, they are only stating some obvious drawbacks and issues in the town and some seem to take it as a personal affront to their way of life.

Ok, I have to agree about the afternoon program at WSPD. Brian's speaking style just drives me nuts.
I can't believe that a professional would have so many "uh's" and "ah's" in seemingly every sentence.
Thought maybe I was imagining it, but decided one time to count the times he said "uh" as a bridge between thoughts and/or words and was amazed at how bad it was. It was actually much more often than I expected.
Brian, if you are out there reading these comments please try to be more cognizant of how much you use "uh's" when you are gathering your thoughts!
I have done a lot of public speaking and one of the first things I learned was to avoid those like the plague!
Toastmaster's used to have an "Ah Master" at their meetings who's job was to point out "uh's" and "ah's" to their speakers in order to improve their delivery.
Listen to tapes of your programs and tune in on your own voice to see how bad this comes across to listeners. You can fix it!!
Fred, please pass this on if he doesn't read this board.

Thats purposeful Wulf. I was talking about unprofessional mannerisms that detract from whatever topic is being discussed. The "uh's" and "ah's" take away from any point he is trying to make.

Wow, 12 people. That's double the attendance noted at the start of this thread. Double it again and you've got yourself a football team. Not a one with common sense to come out of the cold & rain.
A large sign at the front of the encampment summarized the prevailing sentiment: "Boehner and House Republicans are more concerned for millionaires and their campaign contributions than the unemployed, the homeless, and the hungry people in America."
Please...somebody...with a straight face...read that last sentence and tell me again how this is a "non-partisan" protest? How protesters are telling the Democrat party to "fuck off". How these people are "independent". Yeah, right. Half will vote for Obama (funded by Wall Street!) and, laying a wager, I'd bet the other half won't vote at all.
And then there are the "protesters". I actually feel sorry for this guy to a point...
A man who identified himself only as Wesley said he worked as a "part-time security consultant." He added he was a combat veteran and political and social conservative who voted for George W. Bush in 2000.
"I'm going to be 35 in two weeks and I don't see any evidence that the things I was promised are anywhere near the horizon," he said, puffing furiously on a cigarette. "I've had a hand injury for four years because I don't have health insurance. Everything I was told I would get was a lie. Where's my American dream?"
OK--I feel sorry for this guy and if a veteran he should be helped, but I call BS. First of all "part-time security consultant"? Uh, sure. People "puffing furiously on a cigarette" and hanging out at the protest are exactly who I would hire to secure my valuables. Wouldn't you hire him? He's right there, ready to work! Go get him!
Next, no health insurance??? Either he is ignorant, mentally ill, or lying about being a veteran. If he is indeed a combat vet, he is priority eligible for VA coverage. Yes, you have copays with VA coverage, but compare these rates to private insurers. He's eligible for much more care, at a VA hospital or clinic, than probably all the protesters down there (you know, who aren't still on Mommy & Daddy's plan). If truly disabled and unable to work, the copays diminish and other forms of help are available. Otherwise, he is eligible for so much as a veteran--education, preference in government jobs, etc. Blaming the country for not helping him and his "American Dream"....I don't think so. The help is there. I think he is a sick man and I feel sorry for him and his wasted life.
Overall, it's a pathetic protest. How many meetings in Toledo right now are 5 times as big and get 0% as much news coverage. And most of those meetings are actually coherent...and inside.

I wasn't sure if Occupy Toledo was still going on, so I pulled up their website.
This is one of the most recent entries on the main page. I'm not even really sure what to say about it:
A guy came over ... he didn't have a place to stay tonight. He used my laptop for a little bit to look up booty videos on youtube. He told us how rich he is, and how everyone tries to steal his millions of dollars, and asks him for proof of insurance.
Just now he took some money out of his pocket and threw it in the fire.

"Occupy Chicago" ain't going so well either.
Police arrested 130 people at Grant Park in Chicago, including two nurses, for staying in the park over an hour after the park closed for the night at 11 pm, per the city ordinance. The arrests precipitated "more than a few dozen" nurses to protest inside City Hall at the doors of Emanuel's office, according to local CBS reporter Susanna Song.
"First Amendment rights don't stop at 11 pm," said protesting nurse Jan Rodolfo, referring to the city ordinance that closes the park between the hours of 11 pm and 6 am.
National Nurses United Executive Director RoseAnn Demoro accused Emanuel, in a statement, "of showing off for world leaders, and paying allegiance to protecting the economic interests of the top 1 percent."
This thing is such a gigantic clusterfuck full of halfwits, I don't know where to begin:
1.) "Free speech" or "First Amendment" does not give you carte blanche to do whatever the fuck you want or ignore whatever ordinances you want. Sorry.
2.) Rahm Emmannuel...a Democrat...having the stones to tell these people (unions!) where and when the sun shines. It's about time. Obviously, he doesn't want his parks smelling like piss. Unlike that absolute pussy Bloomberg in New York, Emmannuel knows these people all too well...they voted for his previous employer. And they will again, and blame the Republicans for all their troubles...
3.) Rushing the mayor's office with rather unattractive nurses will not win you any bonus points...
