Recently the Toledo Blade reported that the City of Toledo is considering a proposal to require all new schools in have a minimum level of facilities, such as a gym, cafeteria, and science lab. If this passes it would basically eliminate the possibility of any new charter schools from opening in the city.
The Toledo Young Republican Club is deeply opposed to this proposal on a number of levels. As a result, the Club will hold a special meeting on Thursday, October 16 at 6:00 pm at the West Toledo Library Branch (1320 Sylvania Ave, Toledo, Ohio 43612).
Representatives from Charter/Community School advocacy groups will be at the meeting to discuss the detrimental effect of these regulations. In addition, a representative from Americans for Prosperity will be present to explain how to prevent this ordinance from passing.
If you believe that there should be competition in education and that children should be afforded the most opportunity possible, then you need to attend this meeting whether you live in Toledo or not. This is a battle our struggling community cannot afford to lose.
