Anyone have trouble getting a response to a 911 call last night? If you did, it's because the better part of Toledo's finest were lined up on the Ottawa River entrance ramp to I-75 running the "Welcome to Ohio! Here's your speeding ticket" speed trap scam again.
They do this several times a year. Police plane in the air clocking the vehicles coming out of Michigan - speed limit 70mph - into Ohio where it immediately drops to 65, then 60 a short distance later. This went on for hours and was still going strong when we were returning home from dinner about 8pm last evening. We counted 11 squad cars, lights flashing, with vehicles pulled over - and several more parked on the ramp waiting for their easy prey. A lady in our office is married to a Toledo cop. She said he was offered OT to take part in the speed trap but declined. So the fines must REALLY amount to a bundle if we can afford to pay police officers OT, gas for the squad cars and who knows how much for the plane in the air. What a slimy way to raise revenue and even more reason not to come to Ohio. Especially when we're constantly told how short of police officers we are.
So, if you have friends from Michigan or places north coming in for the weekend and I-75 is their chosen path, give them fair warning about the change in speed limit - lest they receive a special "welcome" notice.
