User Profile for "historymike"

About Dr. Michael Brooks:

I am a historian, writer, and editor who has taught at a number of area colleges and universities, and I recently started a full time position teaching history at Bowling Green State University. When I can squeeze it in, I continue to freelance as a journalist, though my work as a historian happens to pay better, so I follow the money.

My main website is called, simply enough, "Historymike," and can be accessed at this link: http://historymike.blogspot.com. I use the blog to post news, historical research, commentary, and reviews.

I also have a website called "Toledo Perspectives" - http://toledoperspectives.blogspot.com - that showcases my amateur photography and more local thoughts (plus some pesky ads).

This forum allows me to read and post thoughts about a wide variety of issues and perspectives. Toledo Talk is, on most days, the best local blog/board, and a number of well-read individuals post here.

For fifteen years my wife and I were foster parents with Lucas County Children's Services. We recently retired from fostering children, having parented over 40 children from troubled homes plus our own five kids. These days we volunteer as foster parents for Planned Pethood, and we will soon surpass the 60-dog mark in terms of dogs we have helped save through fostering.
